bimeto - our start-up team 2023
This year, the Sustainability Centre once again has the opportunity to support an up-and-coming start-up as part of its start-up support programme. This year's founding team, bimeto from Freiburg, is working on a solution to enable the efficient and comprehensive digital recording of existing buildings. The aim is to create a valid data basis, particularly for the planning and execution of refurbishment measures.
In times of urgency for the energy-efficient refurbishment of buildings to achieve climate protection targets and independence from the global energy markets, a comprehensive data and planning basis is essential. This is where bimeto can make a significant contribution to the energy transition with its project. In the municipal sector in Baden-Württemberg alone, around 55,000 buildings need to undergo energy-efficient refurbishment in order to achieve the climate targets that have been set. The start-up can provide the necessary planning basis for this with its solution. The continued use of existing buildings, including refurbishments and conversions, is significantly more energy and resource efficient than new buildings in particular. bimeto aims to derive further-reaching information on buildings from 3D laser scans.
In its practical implementation, bimeto relies on a software process chain developed jointly with Fraunhofer IPM for the comprehensive digital capture and processing of high-precision survey data. The start-up also uses artificial intelligence to automatically analyse the data displayed in 3D point clouds.
Specifically, the business model currently focuses on order-based surveying of large construction sites and the automated evaluation of data as a complete solution. The start-up is also planning to offer data analysis as a so-called SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) in its further development. This means that property developers and surveying service providers can carry out surveys themselves. The recorded 3D point clouds can then be analysed in the cloud via a web interface.
