Together towards More Sustainability through Innovation
Our aim is to make research practical. Collaboration between the Sustainability Centre Freiburg and industry plays an important role in promoting innovation and the practical application of research results from our key research areas. Companies can cooperate with us in two main categories: Contract research (direct commissioning) and publicly funded collaborative projects.
Contract research / direct commissioning
In the case of contract research, a company commissions a Fraunhofer Institute directly to carry out a specific research project. This form of cooperation is characterised by the following features:
- Targeted: The research is focussed on the specific needs and requirements of the client.
- Confidentiality: Results are treated confidentially and the company receives exclusive rights to the research results.
- Flexibility: Projects can be initiated quickly and adapted to current market developments.
- Funding: Funding is provided directly by the commissioning company, allowing resources to be deployed in a targeted manner.
Publicly funded collaborative projects
In contrast, publicly funded collaborative projects usually involve several partners, including companies, research organisations and public institutions. These projects have the following characteristics:
- Cooperation: Several partners work together to jointly address research topics. This promotes the exchange of knowledge and the dissemination of innovations.
- Funding: Funding is often provided by public funds, for example from the federal government or the EU, which reduces the financial burden on the individual partners.
- Transparency: Results and findings from these projects are often publicly accessible, which promotes the dissemination of knowledge and technologies.
- Long-term perspective: Collaborative projects are often designed to achieve long-term research goals that go beyond the interests of individual companies.
