In order to make the world more sustainable bit by bit, the latest results and ideas from research and science must find their way into practice as quickly as possible.

This is precisely where the Sustainability Centre Freiburg (LZN) sees its task. On the one hand, we want to support scientists at the Freiburg Fraunhofer Institutes and the University of Freiburg in transforming their scientific findings into innovations. On the other hand, we are the point of contact for small and large companies, start-ups, associations and networks when they are looking for progressive and innovative new, sustainable ideas for their institutions.

To this end, the LZN has a range of instruments, project and funding formats in its portfolio that can be used to facilitate the transfer of research to industry and society. These include our demonstrator projects, our various event formats, our start-up support, our continuing education programmes and, last but not least, our scientific work at the University of Freiburg, including at the Institute for Sustainable Technical Systems, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources, the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy and other institutes and faculties.

In organisational terms, the LZN consists of its project teams, a spokesperson for the LZN, an central office, the steering committee as the highest body and an advisory board.
