The Power of narrative in creating a circular economy
Narratives are critical to develop and implement solutions for global enviromental change. While many scholars critique that established narratives prevent us from developing policy outcomes that sufficiently address global enviromental change, little systematic research on how to change these narratives exists. This talk offers insights into options to (not) change narratives from the field of circular economy. As the circular economy sparked a lot of enthusiasm to advance sustainability transitions, it offers valuable insights into the dynamic development of narratives and the plurality of solution pathways for global environmental change.
Prof. Dr. Sina Leipold is head of the Department of Enviromental Politics at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) in Leipzig and Professor of Environmental Politics at Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena. Her research focuses on conceptual and methodological advances in the analysis of (policy) narratives, discourses and discursive agency as well as on the enviromental politics of the circular economy and the bioeconomy. In her work, she brings together social and environmental science with expertise from policy, practice and the wider public to create new knowledge for a sustainable transformation of our society. Her findings have been awarded the Albert-Bürklin Award for scientific excellence and the Deutscher Studienpreis for exceptional societal relevance.
