The first day focused on mutual learning and exchange. All Innovation Centers presented their transfer highlights and demonstrated how the various Fraunhofer transfer pathways are implemented in practice. Numerous best-practice examples were shared – from successful cooperation projects and innovative formats to new approaches in knowledge transfer. The discussions clearly illustrated the diversity and effectiveness of transfer activities across the centers.
The second day was dedicated to the transfer pathway “Spin-Offs.” In this context, the Sustainability Center Freiburg presented its work on spin-off activities in the region. The emphasis was placed on the critical role of a strong innovation ecosystem in enabling successful spin-offs. A well-connected environment that links research, entrepreneurship, and funding provides the foundation for bringing scientific ideas into real-world application – not only through start-ups, but also through a wide range of transfer-oriented initiatives within such ecosystems.
Following this, Julia Bauer from Fraunhofer AHEAD, together with Simon Ammer and Martin Ehlers from the Innovation Center program team, led a deep-dive workshop on the spin-off pathway. In focused group sessions, participants discussed challenges, success factors, and future areas of action – with the goal of making knowledge transfer through spin-offs even more targeted and impactful.
The two-day meeting impressively demonstrated how Fraunhofer Innovation Centers serve as bridges between science, industry, and society. Personal exchange remains a key driver for advancing sustainable innovation together.
