How can the idea of Sustainable Development be made operable? Lecture with Armin Grunwald on 2018/12/13

As part of the interdisciplinary Sustainability Talks, Prof. Dr. Armin Grunwald, Director of the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS) as well as the Head of the Office of Technology Assessment at the German Bundestag, will give a lecture in Freiburg.

The mission statement of sustainable development sounds good, but is difficult to implement. Its specific meaning, for example for the assessment of various energy supply technologies, remains challenging. The talk will build on the well-known definition of the Brundtland discussion and show how the successive path towards an operational use of the sustainability concept can be trod in a clear and transparent way, through precise projects. This cannot be done once and for all, but remains an ongoing task.
