The guide offers practical recommendations and information on the potential of floating photovoltaic systems, the current state of technology and the legal framework. The guide also contains information on the planning and operation of FPV systems and analyses their sustainability potential.
It is based on findings from the ‘PV2Float’ and ‘FPV4Resilience’ projects, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) and the Sustainability Centre Freiburg (LZN).The guide provides an overview of the technology and its potential and describes the technical components of floating PV systems, including substructures, PV modules and inverters. It also presents new approaches for optimising energy generation and minimising ecological impact. ‘In addition to technological developments, the guide provides information on the current legal framework and also answers questions on the economic viability of floating PV projects,’ says Karolina Baltins, Group Leader for PV Power Plants at Fraunhofer ISE. The guide is aimed at local authorities, companies, municipal utilities, energy suppliers and interested members of the public.
