The Sustainability Center

The Sustainability Center Freiburg is a cooperation between the University of Freiburg (Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, ALU), Freiburg's five Fraunhofer institutes and industry. It

  • pools the partner institutes' competences and connects expertise from different disciplines encompassing natural and technical sciences, social sciences, and the humanities,
  • advances the transfer of scientific developments to marketable and practice-oriented products and services,
  • and integrates the needs of society into the development of sustainable solutions at an early stage.

With its key topics Sustainable Materials, Energy Systems, Resilience Engineering, and Ecological and Societal Transformation, the Sustainability Center occupies fields that are of central importance in order to successfully meet the challenges of sustainable development.

The key topics range from the development of materials and microstructures over structural components, energy systems, infrastructure networks to ecology and transformation of society as a whole. That way, a hitherto unique research depth and range can be accomplished.
