Type of project: transfer project

Extreme weather events such as floods and storms are increasing rapidly as a result of climate change and pose a growing threat to the integrity and function of properties. Appropriate protective measures can prevent immense damage to buildings and reduce the costs of loss of use. Property owners, local authorities and civil protection organisations need precise forecasts of potential damage to buildings and effective, cost-saving mitigation measures. This is exactly where our Climate Resilience Building Calculator (CliReB-Calculator) comes in: We have developed an innovative, software-based forecasting method that assesses the resilience of buildings to extreme weather events and suggests preventative protective measures to effectively minimise or completely avoid building damage and therefore costs. This means that property managers and owners, but also insurance companies, for example, can quickly and without expert knowledge assess their building portfolio in detail and take measures to increase resilience.
In order for the CliReB-Calculator to have an economic and social impact, it is necessary that the relevant potential user groups become aware of the new technology, its applicability and benefits. To this end, we plan to create an informative homepage with interactive application demonstrations and comprehensive search engine optimisation. We are also developing a licensing strategy for the CliReB-Calculator, which can be integrated into existing software solutions as an API (Application Programming Interface: programme part that is made available by a software system to other programmes for connection to the system). A flexible pricing model is being developed to cater for different target groups.
The pilot project is being funded by the LZN as part of the 2025-2027 research funding programme.
